The Association is the umbrella body of all susu operators. It main service is regulating members to operate soundly in the interest of client and operator, and other stakeholders.
The Association members engage in savings mobilization services, popularly called susu, who play intermediation role between their customers and formal financial institutions for a fee.
A mutual contract based on trust exists between the clients and the collector to collect on daily basis savings agreed from the client to save for the client to collect on monthly or period agreed. It is agreed that the collector takes one day’s contribution as service fee.
OVERSIGHT AUTHORITY OVER ASSOCIATION WORK
The Central Bank, (Bank of Ghana), supervises the operations of the association.
Members of the Association have large market of clients, they provide savings mobilisation services to about 60% of the Ghanaian population. They serve hairdressers, carpenters, masons, traders in general, communication service operators, food vendors, ice water sellers, hawkers, shoe makers, taxi and trotro drivers, farmers, teachers, market women, etc.,
Membership of the Association is opened to all susu operators, who must satisfy admission criteria.
Current members of the Association stand at 1,463, comprising individual collectors and corporate members.
